Cassava Also known as manihot esculenta or manioc (amongst other names) is a staple crop grown mainly in the tropics.
It is a root and tuber crop rich in carbohydrate, calcium, vitamins B and C amongst other nutrients.
With its high drought tolerance it can be grown under very harsh conditions, which allows it serve as a very important source of food and income in areas where it is grown.
Cassava can be used for a variety of things ranging from garri (popular in West Africa), to cassava chips, flour, ethanol and many other by-products.
